Daffodils Watercolor Painting Narcissus Spring Flowers
There is still plenty of snow outside my studio window (and it's still cold), but I can imagine the daffodils and crocus pushing their little green tips upward as soon as there is a thaw. Can't wait!
So I decided to paint some narcissus flowers using for reference a small painting I'd done a few years ago from among the daffodils in my garden. To see how I paint this, keep on reading. (Or to skip to the final version click here: Narcissus Watercolor Painting.)
Daffodils, Narcissus watercolor painting
This painting of daffodils is as fresh as a breath of spring. It is one of those that just about painted itself. As one of my artist friends says, "I just grabbed the brush and held on." :)- See more of my paintings and prints for sale at JanetZeh.Etsy.com . Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day.
White Daffodils, Narcissus - Watercolor Painting
Just the other day, the snow was melted enough in the gardens so that I could see little green shoots pointing up out of the ground. It's the daffodils. They are such hardy things, nothing kills them, even the freezing cold and snow. A good thing because last night we got a nor'easter, and today the daffs are covered with 12 inches of snow. I'm glad I saw them before the storm hit. I know that spring is really on the way!Daffodils watercolor painting
A bunch of daffodils bloom brightly in the sunlight, their delicate blooms contrasted by a dark rock in the background. I just noticed today that little green daffodil shoots have popped up out of the ground where the snow has melted. They will be blooming like these before long!- In my current watercolor work, I use a limited palette of just three primary colors - one red, one yellow and one blue. When these colors are mixed, all the colors of the rainbow and then some can be made. This painting is done with this method.

Yellow Daffodil Flowers Watercolor Painting
Bright daffodils are blooming on the hill, in the garden and all along the roadsides wherever there is a house.
They truly are a thing of beauty after a dreary winter, bringing sunny hope for more blooms to arrive soon. Best of all, they do not even feel the affects of a light snowfall such as we had the other day. I see them out there warmly nodding their yellow heads in the cold breeze now.
So, I painted a watercolor picture of daffodils. It's 5x7 inches, just a small painting. There are more narcissus out there in combinations of yellow and white. I may decide to paint those too!

Spring Flowers - Red Tulip & Daffodils watercolor
A garden of spring flowers blooms in this painting. I am pleased with the richness of color and the effect of sunlight on the flowers. My three-color palette seems made for this piece.- See my floral art for sale in my Etsy shop, JanetZeh.Etsy.com
Daffodils - Watercolor Painting
Very pretty white daffodils with a pale yellow in the center of the trumpet, these daffodils will bloom alongside my driveway as they do every year. Right now, I can see their green shoots coming up out of the ground and growing taller every day. Soon they'll be blooming and nodding their dainty heads in the spring breeze.Spring Flowers - red tulip & daffodils - Watercolor painting
Yellow Daffodils - watercolor
It's finally daffodil time here! Every window I look out on any side of the house has a view of yellow blooms catching the sunlight or nodding in the spring breeze. Robins are busy hopping about the lawn, the birds are all singing their spring songs. Wonderful!
Yellow and Red Tulips Spring Flowers watercolor painting
With Easter this weekend, the tulips and daffodils are popping up in all their Springtime glory!
I painted the background with a wet-into-wet technique giving the far tulip a soft and out-of-focus look so the foreground flower stands out. Rich blues and greens in the background further enhance the delicate yellow colors of the flower.
The original painting has been sold. Take a peek at more of my flower paintings in my Etsy shop, JanetZeh.Etsy.com or let me know if you'd like a custom painting or print made.
