What will this be?
That's the question I asked on my Facebook page. People took their guesses:
- autumn foliage?
- flowers?
- hydrangeas?
- cotton candy?
The "cotton candy" is the first layer of the flowers painted without details. I let this part dry a bit overnight before adding petals and highlights. Meanwhile I paint a dark background with the same flat brush.
Then I paint some sketchy leaves.
Each round blossom is made up of many smaller blossoms. So the next day I use a pointed round brush to add those blossoms in shades of white.
Some of the blossoms are in shadow to give the painting depth, and I used darker shades to paint them. Yet the sunlight peeks through the flowers and brightens these shadowed blossoms here and there.
After many more tweaks and details, the hydrangeas painting is done and it no longer looks like cotton candy, I'm hoping!
I'm happy to take custom orders. Please contact me for a custom painting or to have a print made of a painting you like.
