The maples here have all dropped their leaves and I've been busy raking them up. But the oaks still hold onto most of theirs for a few more weeks keeping the landscape alive with their russet colors.
Rugosas are lovely roses that bloom by the seashore or in your garden. This one was blooming along the Marginal Way seacoast in Maine.

I used soft pastel colors to define this pretty hanging flower.
Tiger lilies carry some nostalgia for me as they bloomed in the yard where I lived as a child. They are among my favorite lilies.
This version of my favorite pink peony flower is done on Ampersand panel. I had some kicking around and decided to try an oil on smooth panel as I've always painted on canvas or canvas board. How is it? Great! I love how bright the colors are.

With a slow beat of its wings, a beautiful white egret lifts off from a pond. The colors of autumn are reflected in the water below.
What fun it was to do this painting as it involved a walk on a crisp autumn day to pick up a few pretty leaves. Much more fun to paint them than to rake them. But, I'll be having to do that next!

People are digging up their dahlias now in this area to store them for winter as it's already snowing. I don't have any - these are inspired by a neighbor's garden. He told me if I come by next spring, he'll give me some as he has so many. I may just take him up on it - dahlias are so pretty.
Here is another scene from the Marginal Way in Ogunquit, Maine. The surf pounding in is spectacular! I just love the ocean.

The pretty climbing flowers climbing on a fence post were part of a garden I saw while in Ogunquit, Maine. I wish I could tell you what kind of flowers they are - somewhat like morning glories, somewhat like petunias, but neither of those. 
Just about now, mid October, is when the maple trees are their most brilliant colors in New England. I love taking a walk or driving through the countryside to see the foliage. Here are some leaves from my maple trees.
Along the Marginal Way in Ogunquit, Maine, there are so many beautiful vistas of the sea. I loved this scene of seagulls resting on some of the many rocks along the coast. The grasses have turned golden and the sun sparkles on the water in this autumn painting.
A few days ago, I and a family member took a trip to a butterfly conservatory. It was humid, warm and tropical inside and along with hundreds of beautiful butterflies were some lovely flowers. Way up near the plexiglass roof I spotted these lovely white orchids blooming. What a treat! I decided they needed to be in a painting.

On my last walk at the Nature Preserve, I was struck by this intimate scene of a small pool formed by one of the many streams.
With foliage season just about to peak here in a week or so, the landscape is looking pretty. Here is a neighbor's barn surrounded by the colors of autumn.
