Pink Dahlia Flower - oil painting

An old-timer up the road from me has a garden by the road filled with dahlias and other flowers. I went for a walk with my camera one recent sunny day and got not only some great pictures to use for reference, but an offer for me to drop by next spring so he can give me some dahlias to plant in my own garden. In addition, I got something I absolutely love - stories about the old days and what the neighborhood was like 50 years ago or more. That's golden! Pin It

Plockton on Loch Carron, Scotland - oil painting

Plockton is a tiny village in the northwest highlands of Scotland on the shores of Loch Carron. The houses date from the 18th-19th centuries when it was founded as a fishing village. This picturesque area with its mild climate is popular with tourists. It's so pretty, it's not hard to see why!

Mother and Baby Sheep - Oil Painting

Sheep in a pasture make for a peaceful scene. But when there are lambs frolicking about, the scene can become lively! This ewe seems to be smiling at the antics of her little one. One of my collectors sent me a photo she took of these two and what a nice painting they make! Pin It

Iris Garden - watercolor painting

A sparrow visits a birdfeeder in the midst of a bed of lovely irises.

Today was a lovely summer day. I went for a ride to take some pictures for a pet portrait - cute little Corgi mix. It's always nice to have the chance to visit the animal I'm going to paint. That doesn't happen all the time, but when someone lives close enough, I try to do that. Along the way, of course I noticed the flowers in bloom. There are still some iris amazingly, daylilies and lots of blue hydrangeas. Plenty of subject matter for a few paintings! Pin It

Goldfinch and Foxgloves - watercolor

My sister told me that she saw this scene in her garden, but the goldfinch was there and gone so fast, she didn't have time to photograph it. Ever since then, I've had the image in my head and thought it would make a beautiful painting. So, here it is for you!

Yellow Roses and Blue Delphinium - watercolor

These flowers are lovely with the contrasting blue and yellow colors. I made the background a pale yellow as well to coordinate with the yellow roses. These flowers are from a friend's garden - someone who spends more time gardening than I do. Their flowers are beautiful! Pin It
